Enrolment Information

The school wishes to provide the following information for those seeking enrolment at Edmund Rice Secondary School:

FORM ONE:: There are three main opportunities for seeking Form One enrolment at Edmund Rice Sinon Secondary.
The first offers of places for the following year will be made following the initial Entrance Interview Tests which will take place at the school on a Saturday in mid-October at 9.00. Details of this are available on the Application Form available from the beginning of August each year – see details below for obtaining a copy of this Form.
The second opportunity for receiving an offer of a place in Form One occurs on the last Saturday in November with the second sitting of the Entrance Interview Tests to take place at the school at 9.00 am. Details of this are available on the Application Form – see details below for obtaining a copy of this Form.
The third opportunity for receiving an offer of a place in Form One occurs in the first week of January with the second sitting of the Entrance Interview Tests to take place on the specified weekday at the school at 9.00 am. Details of this are available on the Application Form available – see details below for obtaining a copy of this Form.
The list of successful candidates from each sitting of the Entrance Interview Tests will be published at the school and in the News or Enrolment Information section of the website within three days of the Entrance Interview Test. Acceptance of places offered must be made by the date specified within the announcement ofresults – otherwise the offer is withdrawn and the place becomes available for students of a later sitting or on our Waiting List.late applicants who will also be required to sit for the Entrance Interview Test.
Late applications may be made but the availability of places is very doubtful as the school receives many more applications than places available. Late applicants will also be required to sit for the Entrance Interview Test.

FORMS TWO, THREE and FOUR:Some places will be available in Forms Two, Three and Four though a place in Boarding is difficult to get as these are generally taken by continuing students. Students willing to be Day students will have the better chance of being offered a place in the school.
Entrance Interview Tests for Forms Two and Four will take place in the first week of January with the sitting of the Entrance Interview Tests to take place on the specified weekday at the school at 10.00 am. Details of this are available on the Application Form available from the beginning of November – see details below for obtaining a copy of this Form.
The list of successful candidates from this sitting of the Entrance Interview Tests will be published at the school and in the News or Enrolment section of the website within three days of the Tests. Acceptances of places offered must be made by the date specified within the announcement of results – otherwise the offer is withdrawn and the place becomes available for students on our Waiting List or late applicants who will also be required to sit for the Interview Entrance Test.
For those interested in a place in Form Three, they must also sit for the Entrance Interview Test to take place on the specified weekday at the school at 10.00 am. Then, after the publication of the results of the Form Two National Examinations,within three days they must bring a copy of their Form Two results: places will be offered according to the results in the Form Two National Examinations as well as the performance on the Entrance Interview Test.
The list of successful candidates from this sitting of the Entrance Interview Tests will be published at the school and in the News or Enrollment section of the website within three days of the Tests. Acceptances of places offered must be made by the date specified within the announcement of results – otherwise the offer is withdrawn and the place becomes available for students on our Waiting List or late applicants who will also be required to sit for the Entrance Interview Test and to submit the results of their Form Two National Examinations.

FORM FIVE: The school has places for about 250+ Form Five students with boarding being available for about 80 girls and 140 boys while the remaining students are day students.
Normally, a student will be considered for a place in Form Five if she/he has obtained the requirements of Tanzanian legislation – five passes (ie D or better) with at least three credits (ie C grade or better) – and preferably four or more – in their Form Four National Examinations.
No student will be considered for a place without having attended the school for anspoken interview with the Registrar or a senior member of the administration.Interviews will take place soon after the publication of Form Four results and will take place on school days from early March until mid to late June. Within a few days of their interview, applicants will be informed of the result of the interview.
Students offered places must fulfill the requirements (outlined in the Post-Interview Instructions) with regard to acceptance of a place by the stipulated date – within two weeks after the offer is made. Otherwise the place is forfeited and will be offered to another student.

FORM SIX: A few places may be available in some of the combinations – some boarding may be available though most of the 220 places available (80 girls and 140 boys) will be taken by students continuing from Form Five at the School.
Interview examinations (in the three subjects of the proposed Combination) and personal interviews will take place at the school in mid-June on a date specified on the Application Form or available from the school. The examination will consist of one three hour paper anticipating an hour in each of the subjects of the student’s combination.
As an alternative to the three hour paper in June, early applicants may sit for the school’s Form Five examinations at the end of May.
Within three days of their interview, applicants will be informed of the outcome of the interview.Students offered places must fulfil the requirements with regard to acceptance of a place by the stipulated date. Otherwise the place is forfeited and may be offered to another student.

INTERVIEWS:

FORM ONE:

The Entrance Interview Examination will take place as follows (students need only attend one session but may repeat if they are unsuccessful at the first attempt):

DAY ONE: DAY ONE: Saturday, October 15th 2016 at Edmund Rice Sinon Secondary Schoolat 9.00 am

Application Forms for this examination should be returned to the school by Thursday, October 13th th – those from ‘outside of Arusha’ may bring the form with them to the Interview..

 DAY TWO: : Saturday, December 3rd 2016 at Edmund Rice Sinon Secondary School at 9.00 am. Forms for this Application Forms for this examination should be returned to the school by Thursday, December 1st ,November 24th  – those from outside of Arusha may bring the form with them to the Interview.

DAY THREE: Wednesday, January 4th 2017 th at Edmund Rice Sinon Secondary School at 9.00 am. . Application Forms for this examination should be returned to the school by Monday, January 2ndth – those from outside of Arusha may bring the form with them to the Interview.

The Application Form must be returned to the school by the dates indicated above and must contain one recent passport sized picture of the student – no one will be allowed to sit the examination without their picture.

For the examination, students need to bring a pen only.

The results of the above Entrance Interviews for FORM ONE will be published at the school as follows:
For the OCTOBER Examination: Results will be on the School Noticeboard as from 10.00 am on Tuesday, October 18th.
For the DECEMBER Examination: Results will be on the School Noticeboard as from 10.00 am on Tuesday, December 6th.
For the JANUARY Examination: Results will be on the School Noticeboard as from 10.00 am on Thursday, January 5th..

For successful applicants, Joining Instructions will be available from the School Office during office hours after the publication of results. It should be noted that successful applicants are required to pay a non-refundable first fee payment of 100 000/-TSh.

FORMS TWO, THREE and FOUR:

There will be some places available for each of Forms Two, Three and Four with a very limited number of places in Boarding.

Entrance Interviews for FORM TWO, THREE and FOUR will take place at the school on Wednesday, January 4th 2017 commencing at 10.00 am – late-comers will not be allowed to sit the Interview.

The Application Form must be returned to the school at least two days before the Entrance Interview but may be brought on the day of interview for those who live outside the Arusha area. It must contain one recent passport sized picture of the student – no one will be allowed to sit the examination without their picture

The results of the above examinations for Forms Two, Three and Four will be published at the school  on the School Noticeboard as from 10.00 am on Thursday, January 5th. .For Form Three applicants, no result of the application will be given until after the publication of the Form Two National Examination results – Form Three applicants must bring a copy of their result to the Registrar within three days of the publication of the from Two National examination results.

COMMENCEMENT of CLASSES:

Form One classes will commence on Thursday, January 12th 2017 with Boarders to be in their accommodation by 3.00 pm on Wednesday, January 10th 11th 2017.

Form Two classes will commence on Tuesday, January 10thth 2017 with Boarders to be in their accommodation by 3.00 pm on Monday, January 9th th 2017.

Form Three classes will commence one week after the publication of the Form Two National Examination results with Boarders to be in their accommodation by 3.00 pm on the evening prior to the commencement of classes.
Form Four classes will commence on Tuesday, January 10th th 2017 with Boarders to be in their accommodation by 3.00 pm on Monday, January 9th.th 2017.

A-Level classes will resume Monday, January 9th 2017 with Boarders to be in their accommodation by 3.00 pm on Sunday, January 8th 2017.

FEES 2017: O-LEVEL

Boarding accommodation is offered to both girls and boys. The 2017 fee is 1 500 000/- per year to cover Tuition – 520 000/-, lunch – 170 000/-, General service levy (to cover the costs associated with library, maintenance and examinations) – 100 000/-, Medical (the school has its own nurse to deal initially with all instances of ill-health) – 50 000, boarding accommodation and meals – 530 000/- and contribution to school development – 100 000/-.
Day students are most welcome and comprise about one-third of our students. The 2017 fee is 970 000/- per year to cover Tuition – 520 000/-, lunch – 170 000/-, General service (to cover the costs associated with library, maintenance and examinations) – 100 000/-, Medical (the school has its own nurse to deal initially with all instances of ill-health) – 50 000/- and contribution to school development – 100 000/-.
Lunch is provided to all students and the cost is included in the above fees. Uniform costs are not included within the fee schedule. For Form Two and Form Four students, there is an additional charge to cover Examinations including Mock and National Examinations and preliminary examinations for each of these. In 2016, the charges were 20 000/-TSh for Form Two and 100 000/-TSh for Form Four

FEES 2016-17: A-LEVEL

Fees for A-Level in 2016-17 are as follows:

Boarding accommodation is offered to both girls and boys. The 2016/7 fee includes tuition – 600 000/-, lunch – 140 000/-, General service levy (to cover the costs associated with library, maintenance and examinations) – 100 000/-, Medical (the school has its own nurse to deal initially with all instances of ill-health) – 40 000, boarding accommodation and meals – 580 000/- and contribution to school development – 100 000/-. Hence the fee for an A-Level boarder is 1 560 000/- for Arts and Business students or 1 620 000/- for Science students as there is an additional charge of 60 000/- to cover practical requirements.

Day students are most welcome and comprise about one-fifth of our students. The 2016/7 fee includes tuition – 600 000/-, lunch – 140 000/-, General service levy (to cover the costs associated with library, maintenance and examinations) – 100 000/-, Medical (the school has its own nurse to deal initially with all instances of ill-health) – 40 000 and contribution to school development – 100 000/-. Hence the fee for an A-Level day student is 980 000/- for Arts and Business students or 1040 000/- for Science students as there is an additional charge of 60 000/- to cover practical requirements.

Lunch is provided to all students and the cost is included in the above fees. Uniform costs are not included in the fee schedule.
For Form Six students, there is an additional charge of 100,000 to cover Examinations including Mock and National Examinations and preliminary examinations for each of these.

Interview instructions must be followed.

All requirements must be followed before the offer of a place will be made – if certificates, etc are required, copies may be brought to the required interview or entrance test for collection.
