The club came into existence officially on the 2nd July 2007, the product of brain child of Br Frank O'Shea, the Headmaster of Edmund Rice Sinon High School. We always knew that Br Frank was passionate about the envrionment. This was most evident in his inspirational words that ended a television documentary on the sustainabilty of the school... " Think globally but act locally."
The group was formed with 47 members from Advanced level and put under the local supervision of Environmental and Discipline Department. Benson Mariki and Nimwindiwe Mcharo were vested with the task of being student leaders of the Club. The teacher that was charged with leading the students was Mr Charles, another passionate supporter of the green movement.
The clubs chief motive was to examine the prevailing situation globally, specifically on matters pertaining to the environment. These can best be summed up through the investigation of global climate change. Knowing that this was our motive we smartly classified the objectives of the club.
•It was formed under the basis that students might acquire knowledge about environmental conservation mechanisms, gradually integrating them into practical works at school.
•This deliberately acquired knowledge, ideas and skill would later be propagated to the entire society through the daily actions of these students.
•To redress rapid temperature increases on the surface of the Earth, the group would plant and care for plenty of fauna.
•Not only was the club to help the enviornment, but also the students by keeping them busy through the caring of the environment, something that reduces negative attitude and mob mentality.
•Finally the aim of the club was to make students self reliant in future allowing them to develop skills for governmental and non governmental preservation and management.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE CLUB MEMBERS.
Our club is made up of committed members who always work hard. The club has a number of responsibilities including:
•Planting flowers, trees and various types of vegetation species on the school surroundings.
•Constant watering gardens and picking up rubbishes on our beautiful environments.
•Educating non-club members (other students) is another task of members.
•Researching and collecting information from the internet to create our information boar
We would like to thank all members of the club who have contributed to the club. To all the students who have visited and learnt more about the enviornment we encourage you to return often to see what else there is to learn. Finally to Br Frank, we thank you for your vision. Rest assured that we will remember your words to the maximum....
