TEACHING and LEARNING

PROGRAMME

A-LEVEL

We offer one group of about 32 students for each of the following Combinations at Forms Five and Six:

CBG    ECA     EGM     HGE     HGK     HGL     HKL     PCB     PCM     PGM.

DIVINITY is compulsory for all Arts students - ie those studying HGL, HGK and HKL - and for students of EGM at both Forms Five and Six; it is also available to other students desiring to study it.

Lessons in A-Level are a mixture of lecture (with large groups), class work (with each Combination Group) and tutorials (also with each Combination group). All sessions are for one hour with six sessions per day. Each subject within a Combination has a total of six sessions per week with Science subjects having additional sessions for practical work.

General Studies is taken by all students and is allotted three periods per week. Basic Mathematics is taken by students studying a Science or Economics Combination without Mathematics (ie CBG, ECA, HGE and PCB) and is also allotted three periods per week.

Notes:
1   The compulsory subjects for each Form level will be taught to all students at that level.

2   There are no optional subjects at Form One but all students will take part in an intensive 'Special Programme' (for nine weeks for each Form One group) aimed at improving each student's understanding and use of English through a variety of thinking and practical exercises.

3   For Form Two, the options available are Bookkeeping, Commerce, Computer Studies, Fine Art, Home Economics, Music and Woodwork.

4   For Form Three classes are arranged according to the three options chosen, the options coming from Additional Mathematics, Bookkeeping, Chemistry, Commerce, Computer Studies, Food & Nutrition, History, Literature, Music, Physics, Textiles & Needlework and Woodwork. The student will take the same options in Form Four.

5   For Form Four classes are arranged according to the three options taken in Form Three so that 'continuous assessment' is possible for each option.
